almost 2 months

It will be two months post op next sunday, 10-22-06. So much has changed for me, I eat because I have to no real hunger.. Wow... I've lost 50..fifty... 50 pounds!!! in 7 weeks, whoohoo. This journey is incredible, I have approximately 125 more pounds to lose to make it to to my goal of 160.. I have enjoyed our walks very much and everyone is trimming up. On the flip side, Kenny had a very invasive test done on his risk for heart disease and is off the charts, heavy heavy medication to control risk of stroke and heart disease.. It's a blessing in disguise, I'm in no hurray to be widowed... So now we are shopping/eating low fat, low cholesterol, low carbs, he doesn't have to watch the sugar too much, but is ... He's cut out sweet tea almost entirely from his diet, gone to 2% milk, no more eggs, he had an eggbeater omelet today with oatmeal on the side, not real excited about the oatmeal... :) But we both will be much healthier for it.Kenny has lost 8 pounds since my surgery. Not that he was really heavy, as you all know, but we have gotten rid of the junk in our house. We both love crystal light, and drink tons of it. He's walking with me, and it's pretty romantic actually. It's been a year of changes and hurts for us, but it's nice settling in and learning to take care of each other.

Two weeks

Well, it's been two weeks tomorrow since my surgery.. Alot has happened.. I lost 17 pounds in the first week. My Sister in Law Cindy came to be with us, and was so much support. Food is a struggle right now, i can have certain things that are soft, but have absolutely no appetite really. Incredible, since I was a person that lived to eat. I do like broccoli, and it seems to sit well with me, however I can't live off that. :) I am starting to see a difference in my clothes, they are fitting better and or are looser. I hope to see a big drop on the scale when i go to Thyroid Doc today. My energy comes and goes, but i am sleeping better. here's an excerpt from my first few days...HI, Ice Cream is not something I'll be able to have ever again prob, sugar will make me deathly ill, or at least at this point. Day 5.... Recovery.... I actually made it up the stairs a few minutes ago, whoohoo, remember I did have gastric bypass, took about 5 feet of intestine out of my stomach, and then reattached small intestine to a tiny egg size pouch. I have 6 puncture wounds in my belly from the laparoscope. They are healing well... I actually managed to down 4 ounces of unsweetened applejuice in an hour//(a goal). A 1/2 a sugar free popsicle fills me up. It has been incredibly emotional week for me. Tues morn was scared to death, however, Kenny, his sister Cindy, Who took a day off work, and went to the hospital with us @ 4:30 am. Cindy has been thru so much, and as we approach this Tues, 8/29/06, please remember her. It's her birthday, and the anniversary of Margarets passing.. and my beloved Tee were right at my side, I've got to interrupt here, end explain.. Tee and I have been building our relationship for about a year, and we have become so close. She has prayed me thru quite a bit of fear, and is such an encouragement to Kenny. She has been a bright spot on a dark day. Tee brought me a build a bear, that's a cow dressed up as a surgeon... So cute... Broke up the nerves a bit. Dr. Harvey, my anesthesiologist, and Jennifer my OR nurse fell in love with him, and insisted he come to the OR. The last words I remember mentioning as I was wheeled into the OR were, as I noticed Dr Moo Key was hold ing an Xray , is stating "oh, he has a heart on" to be confused with other vulgar venacular. The Xray actually has a hearton it.
The nurse asked me who I was talking about and the three of us giggled all the way into the OR. I woke up the them calling me Mrs. Broadwater, I sd you can call me Judy, the nurse replied we have been calling you Judy for 30 minutes and even Judith Ann, and you would smile and go back to sleep... Anywhoo, back at room at 11, surgery was at 7:20 over at 9:30 ish.... They say. I slept and remember a parade of visitors coming thru, a lot of pain, and very sleepy. Did manage to get up and walk once or twice , sure it was sleep walking

Day Two, felt like been run over by a truck, fever, ewwwwwwwwww, had horrible radiography test to see if there were any leaks.... None, Praise Jesus... Had so many great nurses and care aides, Peggy and Lori, asked to take care of me too days in a row, they are RN's and Rachel sweet Rachel, she was the personal care aide and so full of life and just precious. What an encourager. Emily was another nurse who had me for a few hours and she was a sweetheart too. May, the last nurse, called me beautiful, wow, I sure didn't feel beautiful. She spent hours during that last day sharing nutrition info with me, and physiological facts about vitamins, etc. And then there's DR. SHERMAN. He has GOD written all over his very eccense. Thank God, he is a general surgeon, because I promise you that if I have to have other surgeries he will do it. You know, I was given his name by my dear friend Lori, who had the same surgery two years ago, and has done so well, she's amazing and has been such an encourager to me. Well, He and his partner DR. Gooden, are the Team that initiated the program at univ. Hosp, and are rated as the top two in GA. That's not an accident that God put me in their hands... People pay good money for top surgeons, to save someone's life, Well, that's what they did, they have saved my life.... Changed it forever, I came home Friday, not too sure I was ready to come home, but Kenny was ready for me. He has been my biggest support. Incredible, You know I don't remember dreaming about the person I would marry when I was a little girl, or even a teenager. But God has absolutley blessed me with the most amazing man, and it just gets better. I had "therapy" with Jeff yesterday. Speaking of Jeff, he has also been a huge source of support. I feel so much closer to him, and am so thankful for this opportunity. He's encouraged me to write every day, what a great relief to be able to pen this. Jon and Elaine were the family that we shared this with, as they were here when I had my consultation. Concerned and supportive they constantly enouraged me. Shared their concerns, and once it was approved have waived a big banner... Sunny and Dad, Wow, From the very minute I told them have been so sweet and loving. I hope to see them Labor Day Weekend for a few days, and they are incorporating
My diet, had me email them my menu. Sunny said she can puree a mean shrimp..
My mom has been incredible, scared a little, but supportive. Ready for me to succeed with this, and has been readily avail on the phone whenever I needed her. She sent us a check for a ton of Crystal Light, and Kenny had so much fun purchasing all the different flavors.

Jim and Chris had us over a few weeks ago, and Chris cooked a butt load of potato salad, and every other kind of yummy food she thought I would like as a "last meal" kind of a thing. She was at my bedside Tuesday evening, she and Jim, excited at the thought that she can help me work out once I am able to join the Y. Larry and Linda, who prayed fervently with us on the phone Sunday night, and are so gentle and kind.

And my brother Joe, who offers a great deal of strength in his promise of prayer for me.

And there are all my dear dear friends, who have lifted up all those prayers, Amazing, you're part of a miracle. Thank you....

Bariatric Surgery

So, Tuesdays the day that I end my battle with food addiction. I go in at 7:20 and should be out by about 9 am. I definately should be in my room at 12... and Home by friday. Kenny and I both have had reservations about this as there is some risk however the benefits far outweigh them and we have had so much prayer and support. So this weekend, I salute the last time I will ever have to see the scale move past 300 pounds, and look forward to the next year.

Phoebe and Isaiah

Meet the newest Broadwater babies: Phoebe, 3 months old.. she's the beagle of the two, in size and personality. She is so sweet and funny. She is so much like my Miss Kitty. Isaiah is generally a nice guy, however he barks at everything.. Whether it moves or not....I have no experience with dachsunds... So i'm getting used to his quirkiness... He's so pretty... and his eyes remind me of Sam. Rover , who we have decided will outlive us all wants nothing to do with any of them... He lives upstairs now except for meals and the occasional pat on the head. The sweetest thing is that they both love to swim in Sams turtle pool.. They are breath of fresh air in a series of unfortunate events.. and we are so thankful...
